The following was sent out by WA State Senator Linda Evans Parlette. If you are interested in re-opening the Road to Cottonwood, please read on, and help the cause by writing to Senator Cantwell. Thanks!!
After much delay I am writing to detail the next step in advancing House Resolution 2806, “the Road to Cottonwood” bill. As you know, the 2010 Legislative Session lasted longer than expected – as a result all of my interim scheduling got pushed back. It’s been a scramble, but I’m getting caught up!
Over the past few months I have met multiple times with members of the environmental community who have been monitoring this bill. Former US Senator and Washington State Governor, Daniel J. Evans, has done the same. I feel that positive steps are being made and I will let you know if we reach agreement.
Now is the time to share your thoughts with Senator Maria Cantwell and request a hearing on HR 2806 before the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks. This is a subcommittee of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, which Senator Cantwell is a member of.
Since federal legislators can’t receive email directly, I encourage you to email her staff person charged with natural resource issues. When we began working on this issue, I worked closely with Joel Merkel, who was Senator Cantwell’s staff person at the time. Joel has since moved on and has been replaced by Wyatt King. I have begun to educate Wyatt on the issue, and that process is ongoing. I have notified Wyatt that your emails will be coming, so contact him as soon as possible. His email address is: email@example.com.
When you write, I encourage you to touch on the following:
- Request that HR 2806 receive a hearing in the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks before the end of July.
- You all have your own reasons as to why this road should be reopened. It would be helpful for everyone to share your personal thoughts with Senator Cantwell’s office.
- Please copy me on your email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additionally, we are in the process of trying to schedule a trip for Senator Cantwell to visit Stehekin. It’s important that she sees the area first-hand. I don’t have to tell any of you that a trip to Stehekin can change a person’s outlook!
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, or if I can be of assistance in any way. As always, I will do my best to keep you updated as this process moves forward. Thanks for all your help.
