Meet Julie! This year Julie has taken the reins and has been getting rave reviews as the dinner cook at the SVR. Julie started working at the Ranch in 1997, at just 14 years old she worked in the kitchen washing dishes and also as a prep cook. Since 1997 Julie has worked off and on at the ranch doing everything from cooking to cleaning cabins. Her love for cooking makes her a natural fit. Julie is also in charge of ordering groceries which can be quite a challenge in Stehekin. The Ranch gets a large grocery order once a week, groceries come up on The Lady of the Lake from Chelan and then are driven the 9 miles up to the Ranch. When seasonally available we also get produce from The Garden right here in Stehekin. Also this year Kerry’s garden is flourishing with squash. Sometimes even a Stehekin local will stop by with a basket of strawberries or a bucket of sugar nap peas.
This year Julie is incorporating several of her own recipes. A few that guest have been raving about are her Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce, Chicken Parmesan, and Cheesy Jalapeno Cornbread. Also every Tuesday she comes up with a different Cook House Special.
Guest are surprised to find out that dinner preparation starts at 1:00pm for a 5:30pm dinner. Our open kitchen allows guest to wonder in and see Julie and the prep cook Brittany working away. The open kitchen also allows the smells waft out into the dinning area. Speaking of the dining area at the Ranch you will find 3 large picnic tables, an open fire-place and saw dust floors. Guests love eating at the large tables and meeting other guests, often finding out that they are from the same hometown, friends of friends or even relatives!
When asked Julie said her favorite part of meal time at SVR is not just feeding the guests but welcoming them as if it were her home. Providing a place for community and fellowship nourishing both body and mind. So what are you waiting for join us for dinner at the Ranch but don’t forget to make a reservation!
