They’re Back!

On Wednesday, as the barge made its way slowly up Lake Chelan, it had a special load strung down the middle. Approximately 20 horses were taking their annual cruise back to Stehekin!

The Ranch pasture is now full of little Norwegian Fjord ponies, chowing down on their morning meal. It is starting to feel like summer is really coming now! Less than a month until we open our doors for another great season!

PS. THE BAKERY OPENS TODAY!  – The Stehekin Pastry Co. is opening today, and will be open on weekends until mid June when it opens full time. Guess where I will be for lunch….

It’s Time to Start Getting Ready!

The roofs are on!

I can’t hardly believe it is May already! It seems like this Spring is just flying by! It is now time for us to start getting things ready here at the Ranch.

Today the sun finally came out after several days of cold, windy, and rainy weather. What a welcome sight! As a result, we started getting some of our outside work done. First thing this morning, Kerry and I put the canvas roofs back on the tent cabins. They look so much more cozy now!

Logan operating the loader under Kerry's masterful supervision

Logan was busy with the loader in the afternoon, removing rotten stumps. This opened up the lawn on the up-valley side of the cookhouse. It is a vast improvement!

After the stumps were gone, Kerry directed the creation of an herb garden near the cookhouse. I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited that the cooks will have fresh herbs to work with this summer! While the food is always satisfyingly scrumptious around here, having garden fresh ingredients can’t hurt anything!

At the end of the day, we were all ready to take the cue from our four legged friend here and enjoy a well deserved cat nap…

It is a rough life being a cat...but somebody has to do it!
